When Should My Child See A Pediatric Dentist?

Ideally, your child should see a dentist by their first birthday, or when their first tooth has erupted; whichever comes first. Seeing a dentist with your child as early as you can helps prevent issues like cavities, and ensures that your little one develops positive, lifelong oral health habits.

Your First Appointment Starts With An Oral Exam

Your first appointment is usually very short, and does not involve any treatment other an oral exam. This is a time when your child can meet Dr. Annese in a comfortable environment, and get to know him.

You can sit with your child during this appointment, and if they are very young, you can even hold them in the dentist’s chair to keep them comfortable. During your child’s first oral exam, Dr. Annese will check teeth for decay, examine their bite, and look for any potential problems. A teeth cleaning may also be performed, if necessary.  

Dr. Annese Will Discuss Oral Care And Dental Development With You

After the oral exam has concluded, Dr. Annese will let you know if he has found any issues that may require a follow-up. In addition, this is a time when you can ask any questions about your child’s oral health and dental development. Dr. Annese will answer all of your questions, and help you understand everything you need to about how to protect the oral health of your child.
