Dental Implants are the best way to restore a missing tooth permanently. Unlike dental bridges and dentures, they will last for 30+ years if properly cared for. They also look and feel completely natural, and are indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
If you are interested in a dental implant in Shirley, Groton, Pepperhill or Harvard, Nashoba Valley Dental is an ideal choice. Dr. Matthew Annese has years of experience placing dental implants, and can provide you with the smile restoration you’ve always wanted.
Dental implants consist of two primary parts, a post and a crown. The post is made of titanium or zirconium, and is surgically implanted in place of your original tooth’s root. Over time, it will bond with the surrounding gum and jaw tissue permanently. This provides an artificial “root” to which the crown will be attached. The crown itself is a false tooth, built to look just like your old tooth. It’s designed to fit in seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. It’s bonded to the abutment at the top of the post, taking the place of your missing tooth and fully restoring it.
After you’ve been examined, and Dr. Annese has determined that you are a good candidate for a dental implant, the procedure usually takes two appointments. During the first appointment, the post is implanted into your jaw and gum tissue. Dr. Annese will use a local anesthetic and sedation to ensure minimal discomfort. After the post is placed, the gum is sutured and sealed, and the area is cleaned. Over the next 3-6 months, the post heals and becomes bonded with the surrounding tissue.
During this time, your crown is perfectly crafted and shaped to take the place of your original tooth. Once you’ve healed, you’ll come in for your second appointment. During the second appointment, Dr. Annese will check your crown for fit, color, style, and comfort. If it’s a good fit, he will bond it into place permanently using dental adhesive, and the process is complete.
